Guide de fabrication
3-5 hoursIntermediate
1
Procurement & Preparation
- Procure all required BOM components including the USB4105-GF-A USB-C Power Jack and ESP32-WROOM-32 module.
- Prepare the workstation with a temperature-controlled soldering iron, lead-free solder, flux, and a multimeter.
2
Hardware Assembly & Wiring
- Place the custom PCB on the soldering station and mount the USB4105-GF-A USB-C Power Jack onto its designated footprint.
- Mount the ESP32-WROOM-32 module onto the main controller footprint, ensuring proper orientation of the antenna and pin 1.
- Establish the Power connection from the POWER (USB-C Power Jack) to the MCU (ESP32-WROOM-32) interface routing 5V and GND signals.
3
Firmware Setup
- Connect the ESP32-WROOM-32 module to the development PC using a USB-C data cable.
- Compile and flash the OLED display driver firmware onto the ESP32-WROOM-32 controller via ESP-IDF or Arduino IDE.
4
Testing & Calibration
- Apply 5V power via the USB4105-GF-A USB-C Power Jack and measure the input voltage rails on the ESP32-WROOM-32 using a multimeter.
- Verify system functionality, monitor serial output logs for initialization errors, and validate display driver signal output.

Key IC selection
main MCU and Wi-Fi/BT controller
- Need: Dual-core processing, adequate GPIO and high-speed interfaces for video bridging, and integrated wireless connectivity for wearable control.
- Class: Wi-Fi + BLE Microcontroller Module
- Shortlist: ESP32-WROOM-32, ESP32-S3-WROOM-1
- Pick: Select based on required peripheral interfaces (SPI/I2S for display vs USB OTG capabilities) and availability in industrial/commercial temp grades.
USB-C Power Input and Protection
- Need: Reliable 5V power entry with ESD protection and over-current limiting for portable operation.
- Class: USB Type-C Receptacle with Front-end Protection IC
- Shortlist: Type-C 16-pin / 24-pin connector + 5V eFuse, Type-C connector + discrete TVS diode array
- Pick: Select a robust USB-C connector with shell grounding tabs and a matching CC-pin pulldown resistor network for legacy 5V sourcing.
Risk register
| ID | Area | Severity | Detail | Mitigation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| r1 | thermal | med | ESP32-WROOM-32 operating continuously under heavy video processing load inside a compact wearable enclosure can cause localized heating near the optics. | Ensure proper thermal copper pours on the PCB layout, add thermal pads to the enclosure if necessary, and implement dynamic frequency scaling in firmware. |
| r2 | emi | high | High-frequency display interface signals and ESP32 RF transmissions in close proximity to sensitive micro-OLED driver lines may cause EMI and visual artifacts. | Use differential routing for high-speed video lines, maintain solid ground planes, and place adequate decoupling capacitors close to the MCU and display power pins. |
