1

Uses a high-performance audio DSP coupled with an application processor supporting on-device offline speech recognition, premium multi-mic array processing, Wi-Fi/BT combo for fast sync, and a high-density thin Li-Ion battery power system.
Highest audio and offline AI performance, but higher cost, complex PCB layout in ultra-thin space, and increased thermal dissipation needs.
Uses a highly integrated single-chip wireless MCU with built-in DSP extensions, streamlining BOM and minimizing board footprint for an ultra-thin badge design.
Lowest cost, thinnest profile, and simplified layout, but relies heavily on cloud offloading for heavy speech recognition tasks.
main MCU and wireless processor
- Need: Dual-core processing for audio handling, integrated Wi-Fi/BLE, and native USB interface in a single chip
- Class: Wi-Fi/BLE Dual-Core SoC with DSP instructions
- Shortlist: Espressif ESP32-S3 series, Realtek RTL8720 series
- Pick: Select exact ESP32-S3 variant based on required embedded PSRAM size (e.g., ESP32-S3R8) to adequately buffer audio streams before cloud/app transmission.
battery charger and PMIC
- Need: Compact battery charge management and regulated system rails from a single Type-C input source
- Class: I2C Programmable Single-Cell Li-ion Battery Charger with Power Path
- Shortlist: Richtek RT9471, TI BQ25601
- Pick: Confirm charging current configuration via resistor/I2C to match the specific Li-ion battery capacity selected for the form factor.
digital microphone
- Need: High SNR, low power, and direct I2S digital output for clear voice recording in meeting environments
- Class: Bottom-port I2S Digital MEMS Microphone
- Shortlist: TDK InvenSense INMP441, Knowles SPH0645LM4H
- Pick: Select MPN based on acoustic sensitivity, SNR specifications, and package footprint availability.
|---|---|---|---|---|
| r1 | storage | high | Winbond W25Q64JV provides 64Mb (8MB) of storage, which is extremely limited for local audio recording cache if Wi-Fi upload fails during long meetings. | Evaluate upgrading the SPI NOR flash to a higher density (e.g., 128Mb or 256Mb) or adding an external NAND/SD card interface if long offline recording is a core requirement. |
| r2 | emi | med | The compact integration of high-speed digital audio (I2S), high-frequency switching power (RT9471), and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi/BLE antenna on a small PCB can lead to RF desense or audio noise floor elevation. | Ensure proper grounding, keep the digital microphone and clock traces away from the Wi-Fi antenna clearance zone, and add adequate decoupling capacitors on the PMIC power rails. |
| r3 | thermal | med | Continuous Wi-Fi transmission combined with audio encoding/processing on the ESP32-S3 inside a sealed, pocket-sized plastic enclosure may cause localized heating and user discomfort. | Implement aggressive duty-cycling or sleep states in firmware when continuous transmission is unnecessary, and ensure thermal coupling from the ESP32-S3 exposed pad to an internal ground plane. |
