Key IC selection
main MCU
- Need: Process analog sensor data, drive LCD 1602 display, and provide wireless Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone TTS output
- Class: Wi-Fi/Bluetooth enabled 32-bit Microcontroller SoC
- Shortlist: Espressif ESP32-WROOM-32, Nordic nRF52840 + external MCU
- Pick: Select based on module availability, integrated flash size (4MB), and sufficient ADC input pins for flex sensors
power management and regulation
- Need: Convert 5V USB-C input to stable 3.3V rail for ESP32 and sensors with low quiescent current for wearable battery operation
- Class: Low Dropout Regulator (LDO) / DC-DC Buck Converter
- Shortlist: AMS1117-3.3, RT9013-33GB
- Pick: Select based on maximum load current, dropout voltage, and thermal footprint for a wearable device
Risk register
| ID | Area | Severity | Detail | Mitigation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| r1 | mech | high | Flex sensors and wiring subjected to continuous mechanical bending on a fabric glove risk fatigue failure and solder joint fracture. | Use strain relief, flexible FPC-based flex sensors, and reinforced soldered/riveted connections with potting or heat-shrink tubing. |
| r2 | power | med | ESP32 radio peaks during Bluetooth transmission combined with LCD backlight current may cause voltage sags on a weak power source, triggering brownout resets. | Ensure bulk decoupling capacitance (at least 10uF ceramic + 47uF tantalum) near the ESP32 power pins and verify LDO transient response. |
